甚麼？我明明是學英文，為什麼要懂數學？

有關數學的英文要小心的前三名：
Top 3：short
Short在這裡是指短缺的意思。
例句：
The company is one million dollars short in cash for the new equipment.
公司還差一百萬現金才能買新設備。
Septemberbike sales fell short of the industry's expectations.
九月的腳踏車銷售未達產業的預期。
Top 2：add up
指的是加總。
例句：
After adding up all the figures from each department, we can expect a fat bonus at the end of the fiscal year.
在加總各部門的數字後，我們可以預期會計年度結束時可以領到一大筆獎金。
What you presented on the chart just doesn’t add up!
你簡報在圖表上的不合理! (add up在此指的是邏輯上兜不攏或是數字加總錯誤)
Top 1：increase/decrease by vs. increase/decrease to
這裡要比較的是數字的增減在搭配 by 和 to的時候，得到的結果完全不同。
例句：
The sales of our physical stores has decreased by 1 million dollars.
我們實體店的營業額已經下降一百萬美金。
The sales of our physical stores has decreased to 1 million dollars.
我們實體店的營業額已經下降至一百萬美金。
這兩種用法千萬要注意差別，不然很容易在閱讀測驗中痛失分數！
